The short block was replaced at the dealership under warranty. A few months later driving on the freeway (minding his bidness)&#8230; ka boom. No warning, thought he ran over a bumper.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=3939\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3939\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3939\" title=\"roy-backsidehole\" src=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/07\/roy-backsidehole.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rod nuts on #3 backed all the way off, and the crankshaft\u00a0 punted the rod out the block. Out of the park home run. That is Jacks finger behind the motor at the starter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=3937\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3937\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3937\" title=\"roy-finger\" src=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/07\/roy-finger.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The front chunk of engine block ricocheted off the turbo oil drain tube and made a hole in the radiator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=3936\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3936\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3936\" title=\"roy-holeinradiator\" src=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/07\/roy-holeinradiator.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The oil pan, ouch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=3935\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3935\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3935\" title=\"roy-oilpan\" src=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/07\/roy-oilpan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rod. No discoloration from a bad bearing. Note the missing rod bolts. Gone clean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=3934\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3934\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3934\" title=\"roy-rod\" src=\"http:\/\/roadraceengineering.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/07\/roy-rod.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The coolest part. In the explosion and ensuing aftermath, there must have been quite a fireball under the car. All the paint is burned off the lower back bumper cover. Even up by the license plate light the paint is blistered.
