RRE EVO X Drivetrain Parts
ACT Heavy Duty Street Clutch
We recommend one clutch for the EVO X. The ACT HD-SS. For the performance, the price, the pedal effort, the support from ACT, the reliability… all of it comes together for the best value. A clutch while not cheap, is expensive to get to and hugely inconvenient when it goes bad. You can cut corners on Chinese stuff in other places, but a clutch isn’t the place for that. We prefer to use street clutches for street cars, race clutches for race cars. It works out best for everyone like that. We install 4-6 clutches a week in EVOs here at the shop so we get to see first hand what clutches make people happy and what clutches make people sad. The ACT HDSS will make you happy.
The ACT Heavy Duty Street Clutch Kit features ACT’s most popular Heavy Duty pressure plate and most popular street disc. ACT Heavy Duty pressure plates use exclusive diaphragm design to increase clamp load, reduce deflection and maximize clutch life. All diaphragms endure a four-stage, heat-treating process for unparalleled performance. ACT pressure plates have precision cover stampings to provide rigidity and consistency. ACT’s Performance street discs are the most popular disc purchased. They feature premium organic materials with high copper content for better heat transfer and steel-backed lining for greater burst strength and durability. These discs feature a reduced marcel for faster shift action to complement ACT pressure plates. Quiet operation with increased strength and reliability.
ACT’s exclusive Monoloc is a one-piece, direct replacement or upgrade to the standard, two-piece wedge collar and wire ring featured in pull-type clutches. The spring tension of the segmented retaining ring is carefully calculated and tested for optimal performance. It provides uniform loading on the bearing and pressure plate to assure proper alignment, regardless of driver influence or vehicle modifications. Monoloc’s hardened chrome-moly steel construction will provide years of service. We use the factory Mitsubishi release bearing. We do not use the Chinese bearing that comes with the normal ACT kit.

ACT 2900lb Heavy Duty Pressure Plate OnlyMB018 – The 2900 lb HD pressure plate is what comes normally in the ACT EVO X kit (ME3-HDSS) All around best for 95% of the people and cars. |
|
ACT 3200 lb Extreme Pressure PlateMB018X – ACT does not normally offer the heavier Extreme 3200 lb pressure plate for the EVO X because everyone was afraid of the clutch master cylinder. If you are brave, need the extra clamp load, have a Magnus EVO 9 style upgrade installed, have a strong left leg… get this. This is what would be offered in a ME3-XTSS or XT6. If they made that option :-P |

ACT Sprung Street Disc Only3000305 This is our favorite all around clutch disc. It isn’t a drag race disc. But then again you don’t have a drag race car. Again we like street clutches for street cars, race clutches for race cars. |

ACT Unsprung 6 Puck Race DiscACT Part number 6240008 is all race all the time. Grabby chattery launchable and you dont care about drivetrain noise. |
ACT Clutch Alignment ToolNeeded to install a clutch. Ideally the guy installing the clutch on your EVO would have 23 of these laying around from all the 200 EVO clutches he has installed. So best is if you dont even need one. If you do need one, this is your first EVO clutch install and, well… good luck with that. “But my butty is a Toyota Certified Mechanic and we’ll do it at his house” Yeah, famous last words. This isn’t a Toyota. Go Google what all is included for labor. There have been some excellent EVO clutch install write ups done. |

EVO 9 Style CMC Kits
[paypal_wp_button_manager id=7055]For a while there things for the EVO X clutch master cylinder were looking pretty bleak. Mitsubishi had the bright idea to make the stock master cylinder was made from plastic. That alone isn’t the end of the world, but the way that they were randomly sonically welded together was just crap. They would just pop apart at a seam. If it was really bad, they would come undone on a stock clutch randomly. If they were half glued together, then they would fail right when you did a clutch upgrade. If they were well built by chance, you could have a big clutch and no problems. Solutions were all over the place. Clamping rings didn’t work at all. Access to the master cylinder was non existent making getting to them expensive. At about $300 for all the parts and $300 labor to install it, no one was really happy.
Mitsubishi finally took some responsibility and with some cajoling they initiated a recall. The new updated master cylinders while still made from plastic, seem to work well. We have not seen any fall apart yet. However as the dealer mechanics learned the process it was a little bumpy. As of now your car if it was built after the recall or had the recall done, I wouldn’t stress on it as a potential problem. If you are rich and paranoid, go for the EVO 9 conversion. Another benefit from the EVO 9 conversion is that it gains you some adjustment in the clutch pedal actuation. Depending on the clutch you have (especially a twin disc) that can be a real benefit. Especially for drag racing.
